Born in the Bronx, New York J.Lo is an accomplished actor, singer, record producer, dancer and fashion designer winning her numerous Award nominations, including Grammy, Latin Grammy and American Music.
Her parents both Puerto Rican she was raised as a roman catholic, attending catholic schools for her entire academic life. Having left school her first love was dance and she appeared in several music vidieos, becoming one of Janet Jackson’s backup dancers, appearing in her 1993 Music Video, That’s The Way Love Goes.
Moving first into television her first big screen role came in 1997, playing the title role in Selena and earning herself a Golden Globe nomination. She starred in two other films that year, Anaconda and U Turn and went on to receive rave reviews starring opposite George Clooney in the 1998 film, Out of Sight. There followed a number of Box Office hits with The Cell (2000), The Wedding Planner (2001) and Maid in Manhattan (2002) making her one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood.
In terms of music her debut Album, On the 6 in 1999 reached the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, and her second, J.Lo in 2001 went in at No.1 and this was repeated with The Remixes a year later. Albums three and four started well but slipped, followed by her first Spanish-language album and a fifth English studio album, Brave in 2007. Whilst pregnant with twins in 2007 she penned her seventh studio album, Love?, although it wasn’t released until 2011, from it came a number of very successful singles.
Beyond this she opened a Cuban restaurant in 2002, launched a successful clothing line in 2003 along with a range of perfumes and has joined the very successful American Idol series as a judge.
